Writer: Net Impact PhiladelphiaNet Impact Philadelphia

To say that our hearts are extremely heavy right now is an understatement, but June is also a time for commemoration and celebration of freedom. We encourage you to read up on the significance and history of Junetenth and check out ways to commemorate it on Friday, June 19th:

  1. 2020 Virtual Juneteeth Festival hosted by Johnson House Historic Site – a 13-year old street festival goes virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic

  2. Silent Hike Protest hosted by Hike+Heal – Registration supports two black-owned businesses and a portion of the profits will go to Make the Distinction, a woman owned non-profit for young women. Social distance measures will be take to prevent COVID spread.

  3. Woke Baby Walk – Family friendly event in Penn Treaty Park. Social distance measures will be take to prevent COVID spread.

Angry about the fact that Juneteenth is not an official federal holiday while Columbus Day still is? Sign this petition!!
